Propaganda. A fancy word to say 'my version of the story'. I have a propaganda. You, sitting there with legs wide open, inviting, or not, have a propaganda. Even nations have propaganda. Its my propaganda versus yours, always. Which one can deceive and convince the most count of people is the sole question that matters. While propaganda is always about 'truth', it never really is. Hitler's men were engaged in the noble cause of 'wiping the earth clean of human-scum, ie, Jews'. The allied forces held up the 'humanitarian flag' as a cause.
You are likely to believe that Allied forces were 'right' in their quest. But you know so only because they were the victor. Lets imagine a parallel world where Hitler successfully managed to annex Russia and become the leader of the universe. He shall be credited with eradicating a diseased race of humans, amongst other laudable deeds, who belonged to a certain coprophagic community called 'Jews'. They'd have become the most perverted of humankind; those who'd indulge in incestuous acts, propagate AIDS and so forth.
Back home, we have a blue-skinned, dove-eyed Lord Krishna. Our beloved god who'd romanticize with tens of thousands of beautiful girls, who believes that ethics and morality stand in the way of our ultimate target. We have temples singing praises day and night about this bloke. But couldn't he have been a dark-skinned tribal lord who happened to be on the right side of history, who'd fuck everything that moves in his sight, who'd give a fuck about everything else so long as his personal whims get fulfilled ?
United States of America, through the 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s were successfully able to sell their propaganda thanks, largely, to popular media. See Hollywood movies that end with US saving the world or US beating up burly, weird-looking, weird-speaking USSR blokes or, sometimes, women who look like weird blokes. But today, we know they are failing to hold up their premise. The PRISM, blackwater scams have all been brushed aside. Google won't yield any results. Movies that are made voicing anti-US sentiments are lauded by critics and then, buried from sight. Good work! Unfortunately, we won't be needing your services anymore. BAM! A Snowden later, their PRs must be working their asses off to cook up a new story or give a new perspective.
On a personal level, I keep stock of at least 6 propaganda so that, when time calls, I could be ready almost always. Anyway, I'll be on my way to office citing a guy who once wrote a book. 'It's not a lie if everybody believes it'
